    CFP Board owns and has federally registered the mark CFP®, which we award to individuals who successfully complete initial and ongoing certification requirements. CFP Board also owns and has federally registered the stylized CFP (with flame design), as well as owns the federally registered "It's your future. Plan it!®" mark. We also use in commerce and own the marks CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and CFP (with plaque design). CFP Board's trademarks may not be used in any way without receiving CFP Board's prior express written permission. Misuse of CFP Board's trademarks is strictly prohibited. Please be advised that CFP Board will aggressively enforce its intellectual property rights to the fullest extent of the law.

    Other product and service names may be trademarks of their respective companies. The absence of an identification of third party marks or the lack an attribution of ownership of such marks on this Web site should not be construed as any claim of rights by CFP Board.

    CFP Board is a nonprofit certification organization whose mission is to benefit the public by granting the CFP® certification and upholding it as the recognized standard of excellence for personal financial planning. CFP Board has created this policy regarding how CFP Board may collect, use, and disclose personal information about you.

    1. Use of Non-Restricted Access Web Site Pages -- No Information Collected

      Many sections of the Web site are open to all users, with no registration required. For these sections, our Web server automatically recognizes no information regarding the Web domains or e-mail addresses of the Web site visitors.

    2. Information Collected Through Web-based Forms and Contacts May Be Disclosed

      We collect contact information, such as mailing addresses and e-mail addresses, from Web site users who submit a form or request for information. This contact information is used to send the requested information and materials to the Web site users. In some cases CFP Board releases this information to education providers, industry organizations, associations or businesses related to the financial planning industry as CFP Board deems appropriate. A fee is charged for the list, and may be used one-time only.

      How to Opt Out: Users may opt-out of receiving future information from CFP Board or from being included on lists CFP Board provides to education providers, industry organizations, associations or businesses related to the financial planning industry either by selecting the "opt-out" box located at the bottom of each of the Web-based forms or by e-mailing or faxing notification to the numbers listed above in this section.

    3. Policy on the Release of CFP® Certificant Information

      CFP Board, either through telephone or e-mail responses or through its Web site "Search for a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional" function may provide any of the following information:

      • Whether the person(s) has ever been certified by CFP Board, the date of that certification, and, if not currently certified, the date on which certification lapsed or was otherwise terminated.
      • Whether the person(s) has indicated he/she is in the practice of financial planning.
      • Any past and/or current public disciplinary actions against the person(s) by CFP Board.
      • The business name, address and phone number of the person(s).
      • The renewal date for the person(s) current CFP® certification.

      From time to time CFP Board provides this same information in the form of a list to education providers, industry organizations, associations or businesses related to the financial planning industry as CFP Board deems appropriate. A fee is charged for the list, and may be used one-time only. Certificants may opt-out of being included on these lists by selecting the "opt-out" box located in the Contact Information section of their online CFP Board accounts, at the bottom of the online Certification Application form or by e-mailing or faxing notification to the numbers listed above in this section.

      CFP Board may provide information other than that listed above, including but not limited to social security numbers, to government and self regulatory organizations, to allow for the proper identification of person(s) associated with the requesting agency.

      CFP Board reserves the right to deny any requests for information.

    4. Legally Required to Disclose Information

      CFP Board may release information on the rare occasions when we are required to do so by law, are involved in a lawsuit or in order to enforce the terms of use conditions.

    5. Changes to Collection and Dissemination of Information Policy

      CFP Board reserves the right, at any time, to add to, change, update, or modify this Policy, simply by posting such addition, change, update, or modification on this site and may require CFP® professionals to consent to certain changes. Any such addition, change, update, or modification will be effective immediately upon posting on the site.

  4. Discrimination

    CFP Board does not discriminate in certification opportunities or practices on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or any other characteristic protected by law.

  5. Security

    Physical, electronic and managerial procedures have been employed to safeguard the security and integrity of personal information. Personal information is accessible only by staff designated to handle online complaints or requests. All CFP Board agents and contractors with access to personal information obtained on CFP Board's Web site are also bound to adhere to this policy. To protect the security of information supplied by users in order to access restricted areas, users must provide e-mail addresses and passwords to access their information.
